Today, UP Orlando (as our clients call us) has earned recognition as the busiest single-site social service agency in the state of Florida, serving an average of 525 individuals each day. In 2015, our campus provided services for 15,267 unduplicated families. 100% of program participants fall at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, and the majority reside in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties.

Grocery Assistant

Assist our members by updating price lists in the grocery program, and working with staff to ensure prices for all merchandise is visible/easily accessible for members. keep the aisles clear for members by collecting empty cardboard boxes as staff stocks merchandise. Helpful Skills: Ability to withstand long periods of standing, bending, and lifting. Previous grocery and customer service experience helpful. Must be able to communicate clearly in English; bilingual skills are a plus (Spanish/Creole). Ability to remain calm under pressure. Must be able to understand and follow directions. Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time. Work effectively with others and without direct supervision. Must have skills to perform simple math when helping customers.

LEC Computer Assistant

Volunteers assist clients in the computer lab of our Life Enrichment Center with various needs, including online applications for SNAP benefits, social security benefits, or employment. Knowledge of computers and strong customer service skills are a MUST. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

LEC Intake Assistant

Volunteers greet clients in our Life Enrichment Center (LEC) and facilitate the intake process for those new to our organization. Because this role involves handling sensitive client information, and interaction with clients who may have mental health or substance abuse issues, additional training is required. Previous administrative experience preferred. Strong customer service skills are a MUST. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

TeamUP 360

TeamUP 360 is our new volunteer program! We've combined several volunteer assignments into one daily shift from 8:30-12:00 pm. Volunteers will gather in the large classroom, located in the Education Center for Morning Motivation, a fun call-and-response exercise that our STEP students, volunteers, and staff participate in each day. Our theme for the day can be found on our website. Please make sure you know the theme for the day you’ll be volunteering, and come prepared with a song. You never know when you’ll be chosen! After morning motivation, volunteers will get started in our Member Share Grocery Program, where they will help clean, organize, and stock shelves.

Volunteer Orientation

United Against Poverty believes in second chances. We are proud of our community service program and thank you for registering. Orientation is required before you can begin volunteering. We begin promptly at 2:00 pm, please be on time. Doors are closed at 2:15 pm, and you will have to reschedule for the next available date. 1) Where to go: We are located at 150 W. Michigan St. Orlando, FL 32806. Upon arriving, please come to the Education Center, located in suite D. 2) You must bring documentation of your charge or offense. You will not be able to volunteer without showing that paperwork. 3) All volunteers MUST park in the South Lot (white iron fence).

Welcome Desk Assistant

Must be able to explain how the Cost Share Grocery Program works to new clients. Handle all incoming documents from new members. Scan, save and return customers original documents. Create an online account and enter all data received. Run hourly reports to monitor accuracy of data During slow times take initiative to clean the reception area to insure desk top is clear, area behind reception is neat and free of clutter. Take out the wastebaskets each shift Make sure lobby is neat and orderly Check the task list for things needed to be done during your shift Helpful Skills: Work effectively with a team. Must be able to communicate clearly in English; bilingual skills are a plus (Spanish/Creole). Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time. Ability to be flexible in work assignments. Understand and follow directions without direct supervision. Ability to remain calm under pressure. Must maintain the confidentiality of our clients. A positive demeanor and happy presence.
